Therapeutics Delivery Behind, Through and

چکیده

The brain has five protective barriers (BPB) that hinder the delivery of therapeutic drugs. They describe the five main interfaces between the central nervous system (CNS) and the periphery. These include: the blood brain barrier (BBB) that extends down the spinal cord; the brain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) barrier (B[CSF]B]; the brain-inner CSF barrier (B[iCSF] b); the brain-outer CSF barrier B[oCSF]B; and the brain retinal barrier (B[R]B). We shall mostly be concerned with the BBB and use the denomination BBB as if it applied (though erroneously) to all BPBs.

Functionalized CNTs for delivery of therapeutics

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are high aspect ratio allotropes of carbon. Because of their unique physical and chemical characteristics, they are nominated for a vast variety of applications in the biomedical field. Their very low solubility is the only problem of them which is solved by different methods of Functionalization. After discoveries in the last few years of the capacity of CNTs to penetra...

Aptamers are the artificial single-stranded DNA or RNA sequences (more recently, peptides) that fold into secondary and tertiary structures making them bind to certain targets with extremely high specificity. Aptamers were reported for the first time in 1990, a number of their unique features make them a more effective choice than antibodies. Aptamers typically generated through Systematic Ev...

Ultrasound-guided drug delivery in cancer

Recent advancements in ultrasound and microbubble (USMB) mediated drug delivery technology has shown that this approach can improve spatially confined delivery of drugs and genes to target tissues while reducing systemic dose and toxicity. The mechanism behind enhanced delivery of therapeutics is sonoporation, the formation of openings in the vasculature, induced by ultrasound-triggered oscilla...

Nanoparticle-Based Delivery of RNAi Therapeutics: Progress and Challenges

RNA interference (RNAi) is an evolutionarily conserved, endogenous process for post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Although RNAi therapeutics have recently progressed through the pipeline toward clinical trials, the application of these as ideal, clinical therapeutics requires the development of safe and effective delivery systems. Inspired by the immense progress with nanotechn...
